Abstract |
This chapter gives an overview of the key aspects of power system operations and highlights the possible influence or changes that can be expected with high-voltage direct current (HVDC) grids. Special attention is paid to the interface between stakeholders and systems. The choices that need to be made in the future to guarantee a successful and efficient system operation in the presence of both AC and DC systems are indicated. The principles discussed in the chapter are not necessarily only valid for power systems with a HVDC grid, but are also valid for systems with a significant amount of point-to-point HVDC links embedded in the system. Voltage support can be used at any converter station for steady-state operations, and the fast control actions of the converter stations can introduce additional dynamic support to the AC system. |
