This thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of MHW dynamics in two thermally sensit ive semi-enclosed basins, the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea, by integrating surface and subsurface observations, atmospheric forcing, ecological responses, and interactions with compound and extreme events. The objective is to move beyond a surface-based description of MHWs and develop an integrated understanding of their physical drivers, vertical structure, and impacts within the coupled ocean–atmosphere system. |
